Title Dean, College of Business
Category Higher Education
Location Dearborn, MI
Description The University of Michigan-Dearborn (UM-Dearborn) seeks an inspiring, collaborative dean who can leverage the unique advantages of the college to push the boundaries of its academic scope, economic development, and educational impact. One of the three campuses of the University of Michigan, UM-Dearborn is a comprehensive public university with 8,955 students, an outstanding faculty, and a beautiful 200+ acre campus near Detroit and Ann Arbor. The dean will join a strong senior leadership team in advancing a rising institution that is deeply committed to preparing students not only to have productive professional lives, but to be engaged citizens and contributors to the economic and civic rejuvenation of an important U.S. metropolitan region.

Established in 1959 with a gift from the Ford Motor Company, UM-Dearborn has four academic units: the Colleges of Arts, Sciences, and Letters; Business; Engineering and Computer Science; and the School of Education. The University is distinguished by its commitment to provide excellent educational opportunities responsive to the needs of southeastern Michigan and has a long history of close interaction with regional business, government, and industry. The University of Michigan-Dearborn holds as a fundamental institutional tenet that a university must play an active role in addressing the challenges its communities face. Consequently, the University's plan, Making the Metropolitan Difference, focuses on strategies that will contribute to the economic and civic revival in the region.

An AACSB accredited school, the College of Business (COB) plays a significant role in the metropolitan region. Students in COB are engaged, ambitious, and talented. Most students hail from the region and are committed to the economic development of their communities; they plan to make an impact on their communities upon graduation. COB faculty and staff recently completed a comprehensive strategic plan that outlines ambitious goals for the college moving forward. The plan is a springboard from which the dean can elevate the COB to new heights. The new dean will find a talented and engaged faculty eager to move these plans forward. The teacher/scholar model is valued amongst the faculty and many faculty members have significant business experience in addition to their academic qualifications. The student population is diverse and committed to both their studies and their communities. The College of Business fulfills their desire to be actively involved in the metropolitan community in transformative ways through internships, research, and volunteer opportunities.

The dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the College and reports to the provost. A collaborative member of UM-Dearborn's senior leadership team, the dean must also be a strong communicator who finds UM-Dearborn's commitment to the region energizing. The dean will provide the overarching direction for the College within the framework of a shared governance system, oversee all academic programs and services of COB, and provide intellectual and academic leadership to the faculty in matters related to curriculum, research, and faculty development. The dean will also be a visible face and force beyond the boundaries of the College, working with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community to enhance and build external relations, and to raise funds.
