The Eisenhower Fellowships has selected George de Lama as its next President. Mr. de Lama’s hire is effective August 4, 2014.
Mr. de Lama has an impressive record of international engagement and leadership, having worked as a journalist, diplomat, and digital entrepreneur in nearly 60 countries across Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa over the course of his career. As Managing Editor, News at the Chicago Tribune, he oversaw a news staff that won virtually all of journalism’s highest honors, including the Pulitzer Prize. Earlier he successfully led nearly 10 years of high-level talks with the Cuban government, resulting in the establishment of the first American newspaper bureau in Havana in 35 years. Mr. de Lama also served as External Relations Advisor at the Inter-American Development Bank, overseeing dramatic growth in the company’s communications initiatives domestically and overseas. EF Chairman General Colin L. Powell announced Mr. de Lama’s appointment at the organization’s annual meeting on May 15.
