The University of Texas at Austin invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice Provost and Director of The University of Texas Libraries. We are seeking an accomplished, innovative, and transformational leader in the national and/or international research library community who will lead the UT Libraries through the transitions and challenges facing 21st century research libraries.

The University of Texas Libraries is an integral part of the University of Texas at Austin. The UT Libraries directly supports the research and teaching needs of the more than 50,000 undergraduate and graduate students and more than 2,500 faculty members of UT Austin. The UT Libraries employs 60 librarians, 190 staff and approximately 250 student workers in support of a multicomponent system comprised of 11 libraries, including the pre-eminent Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection, as well as three remote storage facilities.
The Vice Provost (VP) is responsible for the leadership and administration of the UT Libraries, overseeing the innovation and development of the Libraries in the areas of user services, collections and resources, management and infrastructure, cooperative initiatives and outreach, support and funding. The VP articulates a clear vision for the role of the academic research library, develops and implements the Libraries’ strategic plan in support of the University’s academic priorities, curricula, and research, and represents the UT Libraries to campus administration and external audiences. The VP is expected to be deeply engaged in development opportunities and expanding donor support. The Vice Provost reports to the Provost of the University of Texas at Austin.
Among the required qualifications for the position are an appropriate degree such as a Ph.D., J.D. or MLS from an ALA accredited graduate program, evidence of increasing responsibility in leadership and management at a research library, excellent managerial, organizational, communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills and a successful record of development and donor relations.
