The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), one of the world’s premier institutions devoted to life sciences in healthcare, seeks a visionary, transformational leader to serve as the University Librarian/Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Information Management (UL). Reporting to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, the ideal candidate will play a crucial role in envisioning and crafting the library of the future, rethinking the notion of knowledge management in an era of instantaneous and ubiquitous access to information.
University seeks a thought leader who will build on the innovative work already being done at the university — s/he will be tasked with building a culture of experimentation that facilitates learning, positioning the library as a virtual and physical hub for educational activity, engaging faculty, students, and staff, as well as the neighboring community in new ways. S/he will enhance the University’s educational, clinical, and research missions through innovative technological advances, and will ensure that the library remains at the cutting edge of knowledge management in the 21st century. The UL will be an influential voice in the development of the campus as a whole and will play a key role within the University of California system and globally in making this new vision a reality.
To be successful, the ideal candidate will address a set of key opportunities and challenges, listed below. S/he will:
- Create a transformative vision and strategic plan for the future of the library;
- Plan for the creative utilization of library space and infrastructure;
- Build greater engagement with UCSF faculty, students, and staff;
- Further develop and inspire staff;
- Leverage and expand knowledge management resources; and
- Serve as a visible advocate for the UCSF library and a champion for knowledge management across the UC system and globally.
