The University of California, Los Angeles Technology Development Group (UCLA TDG) has initiated a search for a new Senior Director, Biopharmaceuticals. The Senior Director will be a key member of a new team charged with driving and guiding the University in its investment and entrepreneurial activities in the area of biopharmaceuticals and leveraging a robust existing intellectual property and invention pipeline for the good of society and positive economic returns.
The Senior Director, Biopharmaceuticals leads a group of seven professional staff that formally transfers a diverse portfolio of biopharmaceutical inventions from the University to the industrial sector. The Senior Director establishes operational practices, procedures, systems, and controls to ensure that inventions in the group's portfolio are effectively managed from initial receipt to final disposition. S/he provides leadership in developing strategies for the evaluation, patent prosecution, business development, long-term relationships, marketing, licensing, and educational programs to faculty members and students and ongoing management of individual inventions in the group's portfolio and also takes personal responsibility for some of the more complex cases and agreements.
Additionally, s/he functions as the primary point of contact for the David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) Accelerator and Collaborates with the Accelerator team to identify and advance inventions with high commercial potential. The Senior Director develops strategies for inventions in the Biopharmaceuticals group's portfolio from initial receipt to final disposition, and will work on all commercial activities of the technologies under their responsibility.
The Senior Director, Biopharmaceuticals reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor and President & CEO of UCLA Technology Development Corporation, a not-for-profit technology company wholly owned and operated by UCLA.
