Williams College has selected Dr. Jonathan Miller as its next Director of Libraries, effective July 31, 2017.
Dr. Miller comes to Williams from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, where he has served as Library Director since 2006. At Rollins, Miller has led two strategic planning processes and completely reimagined Olin Library as an integrated hub of student life. By renovating and repurposing physical space and assessing and improving customer service within the library, he was able to turn Olin into one of the most popular academic and social spaces on campus. A proponent of open access, Miller has also worked in collaboration with other Florida academic libraries on open access initiatives and policies as well as collections digitization. Miller has been a key member of both the faculty and senior administration at Rollins for over a decade and has been involved in many different aspects of college service outside of the library. His dedication to students, the liberal arts experience, and the broader community are evident in all of his work.
Dr. Miller holds a bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom, a master’s in library science from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and a PhD in informational sciences from the University of Pittsburgh. He is active on the national stage through the American Library Association, the Oberlin Group consortium, and several other professional associations.
