Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) welcomes applications and nominations for the position of Director, Office of Environmental Health and Safety (Director, OEHS). This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in advancing and supporting a safe and healthful environment for faculty, staff and students. Serving as the chief advisor and subject matter expert for the University and Health System, the Director will provide leadership on all matters related to environmental health and safety. The Director will work collaboratively across the University and Health System to ensure that optimal health and safety standards and practices are in place. While providing services and resources campus wide, the Director will manage the OEHS program through effective environmental monitoring coupled with consultation, education, and advisory services. The Director will also foster professional advancement and enhanced engagement opportunities for the OEHS staff. In addition, as the University’s liaison, the Director interfaces with outside agencies and organizations to address all applicable safety standards.
The successful candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in safety, the sciences, or a related field coupled with strong environmental health and safety expertise and a proven track record of providing the highest standards. Preference will be given to candidates who hold a master’s degree. Applicants are required to have at least ten years of relevant experience along with a minimum of five years of supervisory oversight within a research intensive university, academic medical center, or research institute. A thorough understanding and commitment to maintaining a safe and regulatory compliant program as well as staying abreast of pertinent laws and regulations is required.
