Presidential Professor of Practice and Executive Director of the Global Futures – Education Lab Arizona State University | Tempe, Arizona The Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University seeks an innovative leader in the interdisciplinary area of global futures, sustainability, and environmental/climate education to serve as the Fulton Presidential Professor of Practice and Executive Director of the Global Futures – Education Lab. Reflecting ASU’s commitment to addressing some of the greatest challenges of our time – from creating just and sustainable futures to exploring solutions to emerging issues that transcend the limitations of conventional thinking – this individual will be a leader of scholarly and educational initiatives that both build upon and strengthen collaborative partnerships across and within academic units and global networks. The position includes an endowed chair that will provide financial support to advance this critical work. The ecological crisis calls for a fundamental rethinking of the role of education. This collective task includes creating new opportunities for re-imagining teaching and learning while challenging existing educational models. Education experts must work closely with scientists, artists, learning theorists, teacher educators, and policymakers to help design and implement education solutions that are viable, scalable, and transformative. Effective solutions to global sustainability challenges depend on these once-divergent disciplines working in harmony. The position will help to advance the institutional mission of ASU as a global leader in innovative sustainability and resilience efforts by collaborating across disciplines and domains to lay the education foundations necessary to shape global futures in which both people and the planet can survive and thrive. The Global Futures – Education Lab at the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College will include Global Futures Lab scientists conducting and translating research and scholarship; academic and professional learning activities; the Greater Phoenix Regional Center of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development; and the Learning Futures Collaboratory. Candidates for the position will have a strong, high-impact record of community outreach and professional experience that demonstrates an ability to work in collaborative and sustained ways with diverse partners in and beyond the academy. These partnerships can range from industry collaborations and small business partnerships to joint initiatives with K-12 education providers, non-governmental organizations, international agencies, and other higher education institutions. The Presidential Professor will lead with a futures-thinking orientation and an equity and sustainability-driven lens.
