Invest in Our Future, a newly created philanthropic partnership focused on the country’s transition to a clean and equitable energy economy, seeks an Executive Director. Invest in Our Future brings together leading philanthropies as well as communities, nonprofits, and businesses to leverage recent landmark legislation and tackle the climate crisis in a way that will make America’s economy stronger, cleaner, more equitable, and more competitive. 

With start-up funding of a minimum of $60 million per year over the next three years, Invest in Our Future intends to support a diverse portfolio of grantees in targeted geographies, convene partners and stakeholders, and create a strategic hub that will pool and align major funding to ensure that the potential of the greatest investment in clean energy in U.S. history is realized. Invest in Our Future recognizes four major obstacles to achieving the full potential of federal clean energy investments:

1) states and communities lack the capacity to access federal funds; 

2) the American workforce is not trained or prepared to build new clean industries at scale; 

3) siting, permitting, and other bottlenecks will impede clean energy deployment; and 

4) broad public audiences are unaware or wary of the potential for the clean energy economy to benefit them, creating challenges for spurring a clean energy transition.

Invest in Our Future will focus its efforts in states and communities to address these four obstacles, in order to accelerate clean energy deployment in a way that centers and empowers communities and supports national capacity to leverage impact.

In addition to Invest in Our Future’s direct grantmaking, the organization will also serve as an important convenor and information hub, bringing a wide variety of philanthropic partners and stakeholders together to effectively coordinate activities in priority states and communities while also supporting the national infrastructure needed to scale impact. Invest in Our Future is focused on clean energy and decarbonization and recognizes that such a historic transformation in our economy is not possible without effort in important related areas, like economic development, good-quality job creation, and community representation.

The role calls for a strategic and nimble executive with strengths in consensus building; keen diplomatic instincts; exceptional communication, staff management, and team-building skills; fundraising ability; and proven budget management skills. Experience working on climate, energy, or related issues is essential, and networks within philanthropy and the policy communities are strongly preferred.
