Dean of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine The University of Hong Kong | , China The University of Hong Kong (HKU) seeks an innovative and visionary leader with a global outlook to serve as the next Dean of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine (LKS Faculty of Medicine). The Dean will lead an esteemed medical faculty, composed of approximately 450 full-time academic staff, 1,500 research staff, and a student population of 4,900 across multiple schools, departments and research centres.THE FACULTYLong the pre-eminent institution of academic medicine in Hong Kong and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, the LKS Faculty of Medicine is a prestigious community with an international reputation for excellence, ranking among the top 3 medical schools in Asia, and among the top 15 worldwide. Both HKU and the Faculty have undergone rapid growth over the past decade and will continue to make significant investments in research, education and clinical operations. The new Dean will lead this stirring trajectory of growth supported by the University’s strong dedication to cutting-edge transdisciplinary research and emerging fields, as well as multiple mega-infrastructure projects already under development, including the “Tech Landmark” (a cluster of 4 towers to host 12 institutes for strategic interdisciplinary research), the Global Innovation Centre (a world-class lab for research and deep tech) and the HKU-Shenzhen Campus. The Faculty has also begun the state-of-the-science transformation of its medical campus to complement the University’s vision and to align with its strategic research areas.THE DEANThe Dean should have:a strong commitment to fostering academic excellence and innovation in education and research, with a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration;distinguished academic credentials and international recognition for achievements in research and scholarship, teaching, knowledge exchange and/or professional clinical practice; a record of high-level administrative accomplishment in complex settings, including management of human and financial resources, budgeting, and fundraising; and knowledge of the Hong Kong medical system and environment as an advantage but not mandatory. The Dean will provide strategic leadership and propel the momentum for interdisciplinary and impactful research, for development and delivery of excellent medical and health science education programs relevant to the changing healthcare needs, and for partnership with teaching hospitals, other local, regional and international academic and professional organisations to support superlative patient care in Hong Kong and the Region.
