Head of Upper School

We are pleased to announce that Riverdale Country School has selected Mike Velez to serve as its next Head of Upper School, effective July 1, 2023. 

For nearly 20 years, Mike has been a member of the faculty at the innovative independent school Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut. He currently serves as the Dean of Students and part of the senior administrative team and was previously a form dean for many years. In addition to his leadership roles, Mike has been a classroom teacher every year at Choate, teaching U.S. History, World History, Macroeconomics, and American Literature. He has also served as a varsity coach in Choate’s highly successful football, hockey, and lacrosse programs. Mike is a graduate of Choate and holds a BA in history from Middlebury College and a master’s degree in social sciences from Wesleyan University.
