Chair, Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering

We are pleased to announce that The University of Alabama at Birmingham, has named Avinash Unnikrishnan as its Chair of the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering, effective August 15, 2023.

Unnikrishnan has served as the David E. Wedge Professor in the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science and Associate Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. 

Prior to Portland State, Unnikrishnan joined West Virginia University. As an educator, Unnikrishnan has earned multiple awards and distinctions for excellence in both teaching and advising, and has mentored dozens of students from the undergraduate to post-doctoral levels.

Unnikrishnan earned a bachelor’s degree from Indian Institute of Technology Madras in civil engineering with a minor in operations research from. He received a master’s degree from Vanderbilt and a PhD from the University of Texas.
