Willamette University has selected Seung Ho (Sam) Park as the next Dean of the Atkinson Graduate School of Management, effective August 1, 2018

Dr. Park is an author, management strategist, and leading scholar on emerging markets. He comes to Willamette after serving as Parkland Chair Professor of Strategy and Director of the Center for Emerging Market Studies at the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai.

Throughout his 30-year career Dr. Park has led, advised, and consulted for organizations around the world. He served as the founding president of Samsung Economic Research Institute China and SKOLKOVO-Ernst and Young Institute for Emerging Market Studies. He has held faculty appointments at Rutgers University, the University of Texas at Dallas, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the Moscow School of Management Skolkovo. He is a Fellow of the Academy of International Business and was the winner of the Outstanding Service to the Global Community Award by the Academy of Management for bridging research, practice, and policy communities through his work on emerging markets.

Dr. Park’s co-authored book, Rough Diamonds: Four Traits of Successful Breakout Enterprises in BRIC Countries, received the Best Book of the Year Award on Globalization by strategy+business magazine in 2013. His most recent book, ASEAN Champions: Emerging Stalwarts in Regional Integration, presents insights on sustained high performing companies in Southeast Asian countries and will be translated into multiple languages.

Dr. Park has been a leader in global academic communities as the Chair of the International Management Division of the Academy of Management, member of the editorial and advisory boards of several major journals, and organizer of prominent international conferences and forums in China and Russia. Currently a board member of Amore Pacific, a leading cosmetics company in Asia, he has also served as a corporate strategy advisor for the Wity Group (Shanghai), a trustee for the International School of Beijing, and a member of the International Expert Council of Higher School of Economics (Moscow).

A native of South Korea, Dr. Park completed a master’s degree in economics and Ph.D. in strategic management from the University of Oregon. He holds a bachelor's degree from Han Yang University in Seoul.
