The Philadelphia Orchestra has selected Matias Tarnopolsky as its next President and Chief Executive Officer, effective August 2018.
Mr. Tarnopolsky has served in his current role as Executive and Artistic Director of Cal Performances at the University of California, Berkeley since 2009. Prior to Cal, he served as Vice President of Artistic Planning for the New York Philharmonic, Senior Director of Artistic Planning for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Producer for the BBC Symphony Orchestra and BBC Singers. Throughout his career, Mr. Tarnopolsky has focused on developing and implementing innovative programming and presenting ideas, forged meaningful artistic partnerships, worked to develop new audiences, and expanded educational and community initiatives.
Born in Buenos Aires and raised in London, Mr. Tarnopolsky is a trained clarinetist and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music and musicology from the University of London, King’s College.
