Associate Vice President for Principal Giving Chestnut Hill, MA

Boston College named Barbara Vejvoda, philanthropic advisor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), as its associate vice president for principal giving. Ms. Vejvoda’s appointment was effective January 2018 following a national competitive search. To her role, she brings more than 20 years of comprehensive experience as a principal gift fundraiser and development leader in higher education, health and science, and the arts.

As associate vice president, Ms. Vejvoda will design and lead all aspects of a comprehensive principal giving program and accelerate philanthropic growth on behalf of Boston College. She will be responsible for developing organizational and individual prospect strategies that will lead to philanthropic investments of $5 million or more, and work closely with senior leadership, serving as the primary driver of philanthropy that will have the most significant impact on the university.

At MIT, Ms. Vejvoda worked closely with the president, managing a large core of his donor relationships, and expertly managing a portfolio of top-rated alumni and parents, in addition to building a pipeline of unaffiliated, interest-based donors. Her responsibilities also included leading the principal gifts team’s strategic development plan to raise substantial support from the US and Canadian Western Regions for MIT’s $5 billion Campaign for a Better World.

Prior to MIT, Ms. Vejvoda was chief development officer at the National Brain Tumor Society, where she raised funds to support 100 percent of the organization’s $10 million operating budget. She has also held advancement roles at South Shore Hospital, Massachusetts College of Art & Design, The University of Texas at Austin, and the Institute for Contemporary Art.  Ms. Vejvoda earned a bachelor’s of science in business administration from University of Massachusetts, Boston.
