Founding Dean, College of Education, Health and Human Services Westfield, MA

Westfield State University seeks a visionary, collaborative, and entrepreneurial leader to serve as its Founding Dean of the College of Education, Health, and Human Services. This is a momentous time to join the Westfield community as the University welcomes three founding deans to help imagine and bring to life a new administrative structure and contribute to the University’s continued evolution and future success.

Founded in 1838, Westfield State University (WSU) is a comprehensive, coeducational, four-year public university in Westfield, Massachusetts. Founded by Horace Mann, a noted educator and social reformer, Westfield was founded as the first public, co-educational college in America to exist without barrier to race, gender, or economic class. Enrolling 5,000 undergraduates, 600 part time students, and 800 graduate students Westfield strives to foster intellectual curiosity, encourage critical thinking, inspire civic engagement, and promote a global perspective.

As its chief executive and academic officer for the College of Education, Health, and Human Services (CEHHS), the Dean is responsible for: budgeting and resource management; the recruitment and retention of staff and faculty; curriculum review and program development; sustaining enrollment; and the overall vitality and long-term success of the College. The chairs of the following seven departments report to the Dean: Criminal Justice; Economics and Business Management; Education; Health Sciences; Movement Science, Sport, and Leisure Studies; Nursing; and Social Work. In total the College of Education, Health, and Human Services is home to 83 faculty and over 2,500 undergraduate majors. The Dean will report to the Provost and will step into this role alongside two additional founding deans.

This new leader must engage a wide variety of University and community stakeholders to develop and advance a unified vision and identity for the College, while maintaining its status as an integral part of the University. This founding Dean will help to develop, implement, and operationalize a strategic plan and vision for the university; steward close-knit interdisciplinary collaborations and internal relationships; foster and enhance external partnerships; expand and manage the College’s financial, physical, and human resources; and support and grow a vibrant, diverse, and coherent College community. This position requires a terminal degree in a relevant field within the disciplines represented in the College of Education, Health, and Human Services as well as experience with accreditation processes and experience working in a collective bargaining environment.
