Washington University in St. Louis has named Andrew Martin as its Chancellor, effective June 1, 2019.

Martin has served as dean of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan since 2014.

Martin earned his doctorate in political science from Washington University, and was a member of the university’s faculty for 14 years, most recently serving as the Charles Nagel Chair of Constitutional Law and Political Science. From 2006 to 2014, he served as founding director of the Center for Empirical Research in the Law.

Martin received the Lasting Contribution Award from the Law & Courts section of the American Political Science Association in 2016 for an article he co-authored, and he was recognized in 2013 with a Distinguished Faculty Award from the Washington University Alumni Board of Governors.

Martin holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Washington University in St. Louis and an A.B. in Mathematics and Government cum laude from The College of William and Mary.
