Recruiting exceptional leaders for mission-driven organizations.

Vice President for Advancement Gambier, OH

Kenyon College, one of the nation’s preeminent liberal arts institutions, seeks an intellectual, innovative, and mission-driven advancement professional to join the institution as vice president for advancement. Reporting to Kenyon’s visionary president, Dr. Sean M. Decatur, the vice president will serve as a key member of the executive team that sets strategic direction for Kenyon at an exciting time of growth for the college. This is an outstanding leadership opportunity to partner with Dr. Decatur, a pioneering president who stands as a celebrated champion of the liberal arts. President Decatur’s leadership is evident in the Kenyon 2020 strategic plan, which was drafted early in his tenure and is being advanced across the campus. This is also an exceptional opportunity to lead and develop a world-class advancement operation. In 2011, Kenyon concluded its record-setting $240 million “We Are Kenyon” capital campaign. Building upon this success, the college is now quietly pursuing its next major comprehensive campaign, which will launch publically in the fall of 2018 with a $300 million goal. In 2017, Kenyon received an anonymous $75 million donation, which is the largest single gift in the college’s nearly 200 year history. This transformational commitment elevates Kenyon to a short list of fewer than ten small liberal arts colleges to receive gifts of comparable magnitude. By all metrics, the college is poised for tremendous growth.

The vice president will work to maximize engagement with the college with past and present trustees, alumni, parents, students, friends of Kenyon, and others. This leader will establish the strategic direction and tactical programs to lead the evolution of a highly regarded advancement operation as it adapts to a changing social, educational, and technological climate. This role includes leadership of a team of approximately 36 professionals and managing up, down, and sideways to oversee a cohesive advancement program.

The vice president will have a deep understanding of and passion for the history, mission, and goals of this outstanding liberal arts college. The successful candidate will exemplify and embody Kenyon’s mission and values, including diversity and community-building, and will be able to champion the college to a passionate and loyal alumni constituency. Working closely with the president, senior staff, and the board of trustees, the vice president will bring Kenyon’s advancement program to new levels of excellence. Candidates should manage in a style that encourages innovation, promotes diversity, and rewards collaboration and group achievement. The vice president will travel extensively, across the United States and abroad.
