Recruiting exceptional leaders for mission-driven organizations.

Chief Executive Officer Denver, CO

The Denver Zoological Foundation (“Denver Zoo” and “the Zoo”) – one of the nation’s leading zoos and a cherished community institution for more than 120 years – seeks a President & Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”). This is an exciting opportunity to provide vision and leadership to a highly respected organization with a rich history, outstanding staff team, and dynamic aspirations for the future. Accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), and known for its high quality animal care and welfare, exhibits, educational programming, and worldwide conservation efforts, Denver Zoo welcomes more than two million visitors annually.

The position calls for an experienced and strategic leader who is passionate about Denver Zoo’s mission. The CEO serves as a civic and cultural leader in Denver, one of America’s fastest growing cities; as an important colleague in the nation’s professional zoological community; and as an advocate on behalf of animals worldwide.

Skills in strategic planning, fundraising, collaboration, communication, community engagement, public-private partnership, and inspirational staff management are required for this role. Candidates who have served as a non-profit CEO reporting to a board are strongly preferred, and a background in zoos, conservation, or science-based cultural leadership would be a distinct asset.
