Director of Leadership Giving Amherst, MA

Amherst College seeks an accomplished and collaborative development professional to oversee leadership giving efforts at the school and to increase private philanthropic support from its alumni, parents and friends. The role becomes available at a pivotal time as the College approaches the bicentennial of its founding and launches an ambitious $600M fundraising campaign. Reporting to the chief advancement officer, the director of leadership giving will serve on his leadership team and supervise a team of gift officers.

The director of leadership giving will establish goals and performance standards for gift officers; serve as the key decision maker in the assignment of prospective donors to the portfolios of leadership giving officers; and advise leadership giving officers on how to formulate effective cultivation and solicitation strategies that will maximize the life-time engagement of prospects. As a member of the advancement senior leadership team, the director will contribute to discussions related to campaign planning, volunteer management, and goal setting.

The ideal candidate will have a successful track record securing gifts at the six- and seven-figure levels; strong managerial, strategic planning, and motivational skills; and the ability to handle simultaneously complex fundraising activities.
