Director of Donor Relations Amherst, MA

Amherst College seeks a seasoned development professional to oversee donor recognition and appreciation efforts and ensure that alumni, parents and friends have substantive and meaningful relationships with the institution. The position offers an outstanding opportunity for a creative and collaborative individual to build a sophisticated donor relations program that incorporates best practices and new ideas in its stewardship efforts. The role becomes available at a pivotal time as the College approaches the bicentennial of its founding and launches an ambitious $600M fundraising campaign. Reporting to the executive director of advancement and campaign operations, the director will oversee a staff of four.

The director of donor relations will oversee an innovative and comprehensive stewardship program that will help advance Amherst’s fundraising efforts and foster a donor-centric approach to engaging prospects. The director will work with key partners within advancement and across campus to provide regular and consistent communications with donors on the use and impact of their gifts; guide and mentor a team of dedicated staff members and, with them, implement best-in-class donor recognition and stewardship efforts; and ensure efficient processes and procedures for gift reporting and acknowledgements.

The ideal candidate will be a talented team leader adept at motivating, training and managing a staff; possess superior communications skills with the ability to formulate effective messaging for a variety of audiences; and have the ability to analyze information and think strategically, critically, and creatively.
