Executive Director of Alumni and Advancement, Simon Business School Rochester, NY

The Simon Business School at the University of Rochester has selected Julie Walker to serve as its executive director of alumni and advancement, effective October 22, 2018.

Ms. Walker began her professional career in secondary education before assuming roles as a writer, then project leader, within the Strategic Planning Division of General Dynamics Bath Iron Works in 1991. She subsequently was promoted to the role of manager, communications and public affairs, at the company in 1996.

Ms. Walker transitioned into the field of development when she assumed a leadership gifts officer role at Bates College in 1999.  In this position, she focused on prospects capable of making gifts of $100,000 or higher and engaged the college’s presidents in the fundraising process. She left Bates in 2008 when she was appointed to a newly created position raising money in the United States for Franklin University Switzerland. Three years later, Ms. Walker became a senior development officer at Wellesley College and subsequently joined the college’s principal gifts team. During her tenure at Wellesley, Ms. Walker helped raise financial support and awareness for some of the president’s key initiatives, including advancing women in science and inclusive excellence, as part of the Campaign to Advance the Wellesley Effect.

Ms. Walker received an undergraduate degree in English literature from Boston University and an MA in education from Tufts University.

The search was led by Jack Gorman with John Solmonese, Nicole Poe, and Kaleigh Hoffman.
