Recruiting exceptional leaders for mission-driven organizations.

Director of Strategic Partnerships Ithaca, NY

The Atkinson Center, Cornell University’s major focal point for sustainability, seeks a Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships. This is an unusual and challenging opportunity for an innovative, committed leader and ambassador to play a catalytic role within one of the world’s great universities.

Endowed in 2010 with an $80 million gift from David and Patricia Atkinson, today the Atkinson Center funds multidisciplinary solutions to sustainability challenges throughout the world. It has engaged more than 500 faculty fellows from across Cornell whose research encompasses such critical sustainability areas as food, energy, climate, human behavior, the built environment, and the interconnections between human, animal, and environmental health, known as One Health. The Center offers grants and fellowships for researchers, internships for students, and opportunities to collaborate with external partners to apply academic research towards identifying and addressing real-world problems. It benefits from the expertise and stature of Cornell’s highly ranked colleges of Agriculture & Life Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, and Engineering, along with many other very strong colleges and departments where sustainability scholarship has long been a hallmark and is now a vital university-wide commitment.

The 2018-2023 Strategic Plan for the Atkinson Center calls for the creation of long-term impactful “knowledge-to-action” partnerships with NGOs, business, and governmental stakeholders. The Center seeks to connect the world-class research and scholarship capacity of Cornell’s extraordinary intellectual community to external organizations that are seeking to address major sustainability problems. The Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships will play a pivotal role in building and deepening these connections.
