** Please note this search is in its final stages and the search committee is not actively reviewing new applications**

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-Chapel Hill/Carolina), a leading global public research university, invites nominations and applications for the inaugural Vice Provost for Global Affairs and Chief Global Officer (VPGA). Reporting directly to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, the VPGA will be responsible for further developing and implementing the University’s global strategy and vision. As a member of the Provost’s Cabinet, the VPGA will lead signature, cross-campus global efforts and initiatives, supervise the institution’s overall global enterprise in Chapel Hill and abroad, and manage a team of centrally organized global program and service units.

In this role, UNC-Chapel Hill seeks a dynamic, innovative, and prominent leader who will work collaboratively with the chancellor, provost, and other senior campus and school leaders; faculty, staff, and students; university trustees; key alumni and donors; and a dedicated professional staff of 40+ persons to elevate, extend, and promote Carolina’s global programs. The ideal candidate will be a visionary and transformative leader who will nurture and advance a pan-university global strategy that will enhance UNC-Chapel Hill’s international reach and increase Carolina’s global impact and reputation.

Externally, the VPGA will serve as the lead Carolina representative to international audiences across a number of relevant sectors, including higher education, government, non-profit, and for-profit. S/he will establish and grow a portfolio of substantive institutional, government, and private-sector partnerships to advance global priorities from a research, teaching, workforce, and resource development perspective. The VPGA will also nurture and support an active global alumni network, including alumni-focused activities and programming that will highlight Carolina’s global reach and encourage alumni engagement and support.

Internally, the VPGA will provide vision, direction, and full-time leadership to Carolina’s global enterprise, including the management of centralized programs and services that comprise the Office of Global Affairs. The VPGA will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to develop global programming and research initiatives that will advance the educational, research, and public service missions of the University. As the country’s first public university, UNC-Chapel Hill is eager to explore how the University’s global efforts can highlight and enhance the University’s mission to serve the State of North Carolina.

The VPGA will lead efforts to reduce bureaucratic barriers and explore creative mechanisms to increase Carolina’s global impact, working to optimize institutional support for global research, teaching, and public service work. S/he will establish and promote university-wide systems that enable effective fundraising for centrally identified and school-based global priorities. Finally, the VPGA will support efforts to increase global alumni programming and services and to position UNC-Chapel Hill faculty and administrators as thought-leaders on prominent global platforms, bringing increased international recognition and visibility to UNC-Chapel Hill.

Review of nominations and applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
