The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation has selected Peter Rivera to serve as Program Officer in the Education Program, effective January 2019.

Peter comes to the Foundation from the nation’s second largest public school district – Los Angeles Unified – where he served as program and policy development advisor. His insights were key to the district’s rollout of new high school math courses, the development of a school performance framework, and district-wide improvement science efforts. Prior to that, Peter spent several years at the California Community Foundation, where his grantmaking supported nonprofits and educational institutions in Los Angeles. Peter also conducted charter school oversight as a program manager/program monitor for the San Diego Unified School District. Peter began his career in education at the Long Beach Unified School District.

Peter holds a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Southern California, and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California in Los Angeles.
