The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) – a national leader, partner, and innovator for parks, recreation, and conservation – seeks a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Since 1965, NRPA has been improving the lives of people through parks and recreation (P&R) and has become the leading voice for healthy, sustainable, and equitable communities. Formed by a merger of park advocates and P&R providers, its founders recognized early the wisdom in joining together to address large issues of the field and the need for communities to create opportunities and environments for people to flourish. The organization recognizes three core pillars that inform and align NRPA’s work: Conservation, Health and Wellness, and Social Equity. Through its membership of over 60,000 dedicated P&R professionals who manage more than 105,000 P&R centers, NRPA’s presence in every U.S. state, support of its members, introspective strategic planning, and rich portfolio of programs actively and proudly transform communities for the better.

Building on its achievements of the last decade, the organization now seeks to launch an expanded mission to increase its impact. With experience in organizational transformation and a talent for building and maintaining fundraising and partnerships, this visible and engaged CEO will work with members, staff, and the Board to set and achieve organizational goals. The next CEO will elevate the organization’s impact and benefit to its members and the nation by cultivating and strengthening its philanthropic appeal, building and diversifying its constituency by expanding partnerships, increasing its visibility, and further enriching its power for advocacy in the national and local arenas. In addition to their external work, the next CEO will be a champion for NRPA’s multi-pronged portfolio of work, which includes research and data, field advocacy and communication, and a range of strategic offerings for its members and other P&R supporters. The CEO will oversee an FY2019 operating budget of $19.6 million and a total organization of 70 professionals working across nine departments at its headquarters in Ashburn, VA and its advocacy hub in Washington, DC.

The position calls for a passionate, results-oriented leader and spokesperson with skills in fundraising, creative partnerships, and disciplined organizational management. Unquestionable integrity and personal values are essential, and a hunger for action and entrepreneurship is critical for success in this role.
