Director and Attending Veterinarian, Animal Resources Core Columbus, OH

Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) seeks applications and nominations for a new Director and Attending Veterinarian for the Animal Resources Core. This is an exciting opportunity to support an international leader known for conducting cutting edge pediatric research on behalf of children in Columbus and around the world. As NCH continues discovery and innovation initiatives aimed at lifesaving treatments and cures, the Director and Attending Veterinarian will play a crucial role in support of this rapidly expanding research enterprise. Dedicated to transforming the health of children, NCH is committed to being at the forefront of research by quickly translating its basic science discoveries to improved care and treatment of the patient at bedside.

The Director and Attending Veterinarian will serve as a key leader within the Research Institute and the Animal Resources Core (ARC), providing strategic veterinary oversight and support of this highly successful biomedical research program. He/She will engage with researchers early on in development of novel innovative programs that are reliant upon animal research to ensure optimal execution and fast translation to the clinical setting. The Director/AV will proactively lead and oversee veterinary care; facilitate research by assisting with animal protocol development; and support experimental design. The Director/AV will also further establish a sustainable infrastructure aimed at supporting continued growth and providing professional development opportunities for ARC staff.

The successful candidate will have earned a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) and be a Diplomate of ACLAM. Strong vivarium facility oversight founded on principles of providing the highest standards of animal care to a wide variety of large and small species is required. The chosen candidate will have relevant experience in academic medicine, industry, and/or within a government setting. A proven track record of supporting robust biomedical research based on a high level understanding of and commitment to the regulations and standards for all animals used in research, teaching, and testing is required. Experience having contributed to AAALAC accreditation or re-accreditation is required.
