The Andrew Goodman Foundation (AGF) seeks a talented, inspirational, and visionary Executive Director to help lead this nearly 60-year old foundation at a time of exciting change and opportunity. Throughout its history, the Foundation has helped shape the next generation of civic leaders, serving as a catalyst for young people to become active, engaged citizens who ensure a just democracy and sustainable future. During this critical time, the Foundation seeks to deepen its impact and expand the reach of its mission to make young voices and voters a powerful force in American civic life.

The Andrew Goodman Foundation supports youth leadership development, voting accessibility, and social justice initiatives on campuses across the country with mini-grants to select institutions of higher learning and other financial assistance to students. Today the AGF stands at a pivotal point in its evolution, as one of the Foundation’s long-time leaders, Sylvia Goodman, currently the Executive Director, transitions to the role of President. As the Foundation turns to its next chapter and reaches for new levels of impact, the incoming Executive Director will guide its continued growth and serve as a compelling and tireless advocate, successfully conveying the Foundation’s distinctive value and bolstering its recognition.

Reporting to Sylvia Goodman, President, the Executive Director will oversee a budget of nearly $2.5 million as of 2019 and manage a team of 15 talented staff. The next Executive Director will bring a record of leading multifaceted programs in the civic sector, an unwavering belief in the power of youth in the democratic process, and demonstrated experience around issues of equity, access, and inclusion. Outstanding interpersonal, communication, leadership, and management skills, along with a deep-seated passion for the mission, legacy, and core values of the Foundation are essential for the role.


The next Executive Director will be an effective implementer who can turn vision into action. The Executive Director will have the opportunity to build upon the Foundation’s excellent programs; strengthen its organizational infrastructure; ensure that its resources continue to increase; and serve as an inspirational force in broadening the reach of the Foundation. The broad objectives for the new Executive Director are as follows:

  • Manage and guide five department heads: Development, Programs, Communications, Finance/HR, and Legal. A priority for the Executive Director will be to ensure that the senior staff leadership group works together as a highly effective team and shares a common sense of purpose and strategy.
  • Oversee and direct organizational growth and development including HR, Budget/Financial, Staffing, Strategic Planning, Systems and IT performance/efficiency. The Executive Director will be a systems-thinker who can elevate the Foundation to the next level of professionalization.
  • Support fundraising efforts and serve as a visible advocate for the organization. The Executive Director will enthusiastically communicate the AGF’s mission, offerings, and accomplishments, as well as the critical role civic engagement plays in society.
  • Work with various stakeholders, including AGF board members.
  • Vet all contracts, proposals, reports, and legal initiatives
  • Ensure that AGF is in compliance with insurance and legal requirements across organizational activities.

  • Demonstrated success in non-profit management
  • Visionary and inspirational leader who is passionate about youth civic participation and creating a national network of young activists whose voices and votes are a powerful force in democracy
  • Thought leader who speaks and writes eloquently about issues, particularly related to removing suppression of young voices and votes and fostering active participation and advocacy of young citizens in shaping their democracy
  • Skilled manager who inspires and supports staff growth, development, and coordination, while fostering teamwork and getting buy-in from stakeholders
  • Experience with program development and implementation as well as the ability to assess organizational strengths and opportunities for growth and guide appropriate response
  • Data-driven leader with an appetite to develop measurements and evaluations of AGF's programs.
