Recruiting exceptional leaders for mission-driven organizations.

Chief Financial and Business Officer Chicago, IL

Rush University invites nominations and applications for the position of Chief Financial and Business Officer (CFBO). This position calls for a collaborative, experienced financial leader with a strong understanding of the academic medicine enterprise and a proven track record of success in complex environments. Rush is well known for its strong heritage as a pioneer in community service, research, and equity initiatives, and its CFBO must work closely with the senior leadership team to guide its fiscal policies and ensure Rush is poised to continue to implement its strategic goals.

Rush University is one of a small number of not-for-profit universities that is dedicated entirely to health sciences and is comprised of four colleges: the Rush Medical College, College of Nursing, College of Health Sciences, and Graduate College. The University is deeply integrated with Rush University Medical Center (RUMC) and the Rush University System for Health, and it leverages the outstanding clinical care environment to provide in-depth clinical experiences for students. Importantly, unlike most academic medical systems, Rush has a fully integrated governance and management structure with a single board overseeing all mission components.

The CFBO will represent Rush University and Rush University Medical Center as the primary finance and business leader for Rush University, including its four colleges and graduate medical education. This position is the primary business partner for the Provost and the President of Rush University, and the senior fiscal officer liaison to medical center administration and corporate finance. The CFBO will function as the Chief Financial Officer of the University and will report to the Provost and the Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Rush University Medical Center and Rush University System for Health.

The successful candidate will bring significant fiscal experience in complex academic medical settings, in-depth knowledge of the business of academic medicine, strong financial management skills, familiarity with sponsored research, and collaborative problem-solving ability. The CFBO will be a proven leader with a bias towards action and results, tempered by an appreciation for the rich and diverse culture of Rush and its constituents and partners.

Daniel Rodas is leading this search with Leslie McCarthy and Bryce Gilfillian.
