Recruiting exceptional leaders for mission-driven organizations.

Director of the Amherst Fund Amherst, MA

Reporting to the senior director of constituent programs, the director of the Amherst Fund oversees a staff of eight and supports approximately 1,100 volunteers responsible for securing unrestricted annual gifts from the College’s 23,000 alumni and 2,000 families.  Resources provided by the Fund are critical to sustaining the hallmarks of an Amherst College education, including small classes, an open curriculum and a singular focus on undergraduate education that ensures that leading scholars engage daily with talented, curious students in a sustainable campus environment. Amherst equips students for leadership in an increasingly global and complex world.

In this role, the director will formulate strategic plans to maximize current-use dollars and maintain and increase alumni participation rates and provide direction for the team implementing the AF programs.   Class-based fundraising is a central component to securing annual giving dollars.  The director also will provide strategic leadership, effective management, and inspiration to the Advancement team and key volunteers responsible for securing higher levels of unrestricted support from an increasingly diverse constituency.

The ideal candidate will have a keen understanding and appreciation for the role annual, unrestricted giving has on the overall fundraising success of an organization and the fiscal health of an institution; extensive experience providing meaningful engagement opportunities to volunteers; and a successful track record increasing private philanthropic support for an institution.
