Recruiting exceptional leaders for mission-driven organizations.

Assistant Vice President for Development Bowling Green, OH

Bowling Green State University (BGSU), a nationally ranked public research university, seeks an enterprising and collaborative development professional to serve as assistant vice president for development. Reporting to the recently appointed vice president for university advancement and serving as a key member of her senior team, the assistant vice president will expertly lead and manage the major gift fundraising teams for the colleges and units, along with gift planning and corporate and foundation relations, in order to increase philanthropic gifts in support of the Changing Lives for the World campaign and BGSU’s future fundraising efforts.

Within the past two years, BGSU has been reinvigorated by two significant leadership appointments. In February 2018, interim president Dr. Rodney Rogers was permanently appointed to serve as the university’s leader. An alumnus, President Rogers first joined BGSU in 2006 as dean of the College of Business and later as provost and senior vice president. One of the first additions President Rogers made to his senior cabinet was the hiring of Pam Conlin, who joined BGSU in October 2018 as vice president for university advancement and president and chief executive officer of the BGSU Foundation. After a highly successful career at Southern Methodist University, Ms. Conlin is well positioned to build a best-in-class advancement operation with significant potential for growth.

Early in her tenure, the vice president seeks an equally motivated and strategic partner to further elevate the university’s fundraising efforts, especially as BGSU nears the successful completion of its largest and most ambitious comprehensive campaign to date. With a goal of $200 million, Changing Lives for the World highlights four key priorities: scholarships to support students in all majors; endowed faculty and staff positions to recruit and retain outstanding educators and coaches; creating state-of-the-art facilities; and named academic programs and units. On track to conclude by December 2020, the campaign has achieved more than 86 percent of its goal to date. Joining at a pivotal moment, the assistant vice president will play a key role in not only bringing the campaign over the finish line, but also readying the university for even more ambitious fundraising endeavors in the years to come.

In addition to managing a team of 15, the assistant vice president will work collaboratively across University Advancement and with deans and other campus leaders to coordinate and execute prospective donor cultivation and solicitation strategies and activities. The assistant vice president will also lead by example through the management of a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects, focusing on gifts of $500,000 and above. In addition to possessing a proven track record of securing gifts at this level, the next assistant vice president will bring a deep understanding of and appreciation for best practices; a passion for fundraising; experience in designing innovative engagement strategies; a proven ability to build, manage, mentor, and empower staff; and the ability to foster meaningful relationships with alumni, faculty, administrators, staff, and other key constituents. The selected candidate will join a university that prides itself on a strong commitment to first-year programs that lead to student success and seeks to foster a welcoming, safe, and diverse environment where the creative ideas and achievements of all can benefit others throughout Ohio, the nation, and the world.

Jack Gorman is leading this search with Nicole Poe, Michael Mozzicato, and Kavita Mannan.
