Recruiting exceptional leaders for mission-driven organizations.

Vice President for Student Affairs Pomona, CA

Cal Poly Pomona, one of two polytechnic universities in the 23-campus California State University System and one of only seven polytechnic institutions nationally, seeks an innovative and visionary leader to serve as the next Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA). The incoming Vice President for Student Affairs will report to Cal Poly’s dynamic President, Dr. Soraya Coley, who is committed to not only academic excellence, but also to enriching the quality of student life and ensuring that Cal Poly Pomona is a beacon of inclusivity. This is an exciting opportunity to provide impactful administrative leadership, uniting the University’s learn-by-doing philosophy with a holistic approach to student success.

Operating as part of the 23-campus California State University System, Cal Poly Pomona is a comprehensive public university nestled in the beautiful San Gabriel Valley less than 30 miles east of Los Angeles at the intersection of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties, the largest four counties in the state. The University is comprised of eight academic colleges and enrolls nearly 26,000 students. It is known to offer one of the best values in higher education among universities that blend excellence and affordability. A Hispanic-Serving Institution, the University is ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the tenth most diverse in the western region, and the celebration of the diversity of its students, faculty, and staff is integral to the University’s identity. The University has a profound commitment to creativity, discovery, and innovation, and is known for its applied hands-on approach to higher education.

As the Chief Student Affairs Officer for the University, the VPSA oversees the Division of Student Affairs and is charged with the overall management, planning, administration, and evaluation of the Division’s programs, services, personnel, policies, procedures, development, facilities, and budget. The VPSA plays a principal role in setting and enacting University priorities affecting student affairs, advancing the diversity and educational equity goals of the institution, and creating systemic change on access and accountability.

The incoming Vice President for Student Affairs will work as “one team” with the President, Provost, university leadership, the Faculty Senate, students, staff, and faculty to lead and ensure a transformational student experience. In support of the enduring legacy and mission of Cal Poly Pomona, the VPSA will address a set of key opportunities and challenges, including:

  • Promote a fully integrated student experience by working across the University, with a particular focus on Academic Affairs
  • Provide inspirational leadership for a complex administrative unit
  • Advance a culture of assessment and impact to enable data-informed decision-making
  • Engage personally with the student population and serve as a visible presence on campus
  • Serve as an ambassador and advocate for students beyond Cal Poly Pomona
