King School, a preK-12 independent day school that serves 700 students, seeks a Chief Financial and Operating Officer (CFOO). This is a compelling opportunity to help shape the future of a distinctive independent school that is already known for its excellent program and dynamic community, and to be a key partner in the launch of the new strategic plan that prioritizes the student experience as they master the essential skills they will need to be successful in an increasingly complex world. This is an exciting time to join King School. The School has momentum in terms of its culture, its program, and its leadership, and is ready to engage in generative and exciting strategic conversations to realize the aims of its Strategic Plan. The next Chief Financial and Operating Officer will partner with an experienced Board, an ambitious and charismatic Head of School, and a vibrant school community to ensure a strong future for the institution.

Reporting to the Head of School, the Chief Financial and Operating Officer will manage and oversee the business, financial, investment, facilities, human resources, and operational functions of the School. The CFOO will partner closely with the Head of School, the Board of Trustees and the Leadership Team to set strategic goals and advance the School’s mission. Astute business and softskills are essential for the role. Equally important is the ability to communicate effectively and engage productively with a collaborative and diverse school community. King has an operating budget of $29 million and a $28 million endowment, and the CFOO will partner closely with the Head of School and the Finance, Investment, and Buildings & Grounds committees of the Board with regard to budgets and long-term financial planning.

The ideal candidate will bring significant experience gained through increasingly responsible roles in schools or colleges, other nonprofit organizations, or business settings. This experience will ideally include budgeting and planning, financial forecasting and analysis, endowment management, human resources, policy making, business operations, and oversight of facilities and capital projects. Previous experience in educational institutions is not required; however, an ability and willingness to demonstrate a deep commitment to the mission of the School is essential.
