Recruiting exceptional leaders for mission-driven organizations.

President Bedford + Lowell, MA

Middlesex Community College (MCC) seeks a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and visionary new leader with the proven skills and passion to serve as its fifth President. While the new President will join MCC at a time of significant challenges facing higher education, they will inherit a strong institution with a long track record of academic innovation and a reputation as one of the state’s top community colleges. The President will have the opportunity to lead a college full of excellent faculty, talented students, and committed staff to envision a bold future for MCC and the communities it serves.

Founded in 1970 and celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, Middlesex Community College has grown to become one of the largest of the 15 community colleges in Massachusetts, with two distinct campuses, one in suburban Bedford and the other in the center of the City of Lowell. MCC has a total annual enrollment of 11,000 credit students and 2,400 noncredit students, with a large early college and dual enrollment program, strong honors program, and long history of online teaching and learning. Like community colleges everywhere, MCC faces a period of enrollment and financial challenges as it responds to the diverse and evolving needs of its students and community. Yet, times of challenge are also times of opportunity, and it’s clear that MCC has the ability to not only meet those challenges but to define a new model of excellence. Despite the high quality of the programs, MCC is not immune to national or statewide trends, and the College has experienced a decline in enrollment in recent years. At the same time, the need for MCC’s mission-critical work and societal impact has increased and is underscored by the unprecedented global health crisis, changing economy, and growing social movement illuminating systemic inequities.

The President will have leadership experience in higher education or another relevant setting, be stirred by MCC’s mission, and possess the vision, voice, and facility to advance, promote, and celebrate it, ensuring MCC’s future as a leading institution of higher education in Massachusetts and nationally. As the chief ambassador of Middlesex Community College, the President will lead with transparency; generate and steward its financial resources; identify new and strengthen existing partnerships and relationships with the local and state governments, businesses, alumni, other educational institutions, and civic organizations; and ensure that MCC continues to be a dynamic learning resource that empowers students to succeed and fuels the cultural and economic vitality of the region.
