The University of Louisville (UofL) is seeking a visionary, transformative, and inspirational leader to serve as the next Dean of the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). This is an exciting opportunity for a distinguished scholar, talented educator and accomplished administrator to guide the College forward at a time of tremendous promise.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President and University Provost, the Dean serves as the chief academic officer for the College, providing leadership for its approximately 1,900 undergraduate students, 1,314 master’s and doctoral students,  285 full and part-time faculty, and 129 full and part-time staff. More specifically, the Dean is tasked with overseeing the College’s planning and operation, and will be responsible for executing a strategy to ensure that its educational excellence, research productivity, connections to the broader community, and national reputation continue an upward trajectory.

Established in 1968 as the School of Education, CEHD promotes the professional development of individuals concerned with education and human development in a variety of settings, including schools, colleges and universities, private and corporate organizations, and government agencies.  As one of five Commonwealth Centers of Excellence and the only one in education, CEHD offers programs, courses and other experiences designed to prepare professionals through curricula leading to the Bachelor of Science degree and advanced degrees and certifications in early elementary education, middle and secondary education, counseling psychology, health and human performance, sport administration, and organizational leadership and learning.

The CEHD consists of five departments: Elementary, Middle and Secondary Education; Special Education; Counseling and Human Development; Leadership, Foundations, and Human Resource Education; and Health and Sport Sciences.   The College offers graduate degrees at the master’s and Ph.D./Ed.D levels in all areas. The University is located in an urban setting in Louisville, Kentucky, a city boasting a vibrant center of cultural activity, including a lively restaurant and food scene, and a full menu of sports, concerts, and other cultural events.

The next Dean will lead a first-class faculty, dedicated staff, and mission-driven student body. With the advent of new and exciting leadership that is transforming the strategic vision, climate, and day-to-day operations of the University as a whole, the Dean of CEHD will confront a set of opportunities and challenges that will impact the future of the College. These include developing and communicating a vision that supports, promotes and sustains the College of Education and Human Development; fostering an environment that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and a commitment to transparency; supporting funded research and scholarship activities and developing external resources to increase financial stability; strengthening unity of the College’s academic areas and distinct programs; fostering and supporting interdisciplinary research, programming and collaboration; establishing and promoting relationships and partnerships within the city of Louisville and beyond; and improving the College’s administrative efficiency.

The next Dean will also be  dedicated to fostering the values of diversity, equity and inclusion, including being responsible for the inaugural Assistant Dean of Diversity and the impact that will have on the College. The Dean will bring high academic standards, a distinguished record of scholarship, strong management and leadership skills, and an aptitude for managing change. The next Dean will also possess superior communication skills, entrepreneurial energy, and the capacity to represent the College effectively, internally and externally.
