Director of Medical Services Pullman, WA

Washington State University (WSU), a distinguished and comprehensive public research institution with multiple campuses, seeks an accomplished, innovative physician leader to serve as its next Director of Medical Services (Director). The Director will provide strategic direction and oversight for all medical care provided on the WSU Pullman campus, while serving as an integral partner across the university around health and wellness. The Director will bring a vision and passion for providing medical services in ways that are tailored to students’ diverse needs, engage and empower students in the maintenance of their own health and wellbeing, and ensure satisfying provider and patient experiences.

Founded in 1890 in Pullman, WSU is Washington’s land-grant university. The University seeks to improve the quality of life on a local, national, and global scale, and WSU is committed to innovation and excellence in research and scholarship. The University enrolls nearly 31,700 students, employs more than 7,000 full- and part-time faculty and staff statewide, and offers several highly ranked academic programs on its five physical campuses (Pullman, Spokane, Tri-Cities, Vancouver, and Everett) and online through the Global Campus. WSU Extension offices are located in each of the state’s 39 counties, and the University operates Research and Extension Centers in key agricultural areas. WSU offers 95 academic majors for undergraduates, 79 master’s degree programs, and 63 doctoral degree programs, as well as professional degree programs in medicine, nursing, veterinary medicine, and pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Cougar Health Services and overseeing approximately 16 clinicians and staff, the Director is responsible for overall planning and direction of medical services, promoting a culture of continual quality improvement and care, skillfully managing personnel and financial resources, providing strong staff and clinical supervision, and overseeing adherence to key regulatory and other forms of compliance requirements. In addition, the Director will be a compassionate, talented senior clinician, providing direct clinical care and serving as a mentor to other clinicians. The successful candidate will be passionate about providing high-quality, holistic health care to students, bolstering medical services as an inclusive environment for diverse staff and patients, and promoting equity around issues of public health and wellness. To achieve these aims, the Director will focus on the following priorities:

  • Together with the CHS Executive Team, further Cougar Health as a nexus for student health and wellness
  • Ensure operational effectiveness of CHS medical services
  • Provide accessible, holistic, and inclusive healthcare for all WSU students
  • Hire, mentor, and work alongside providers to ensure exceptional medical care for students
  • Partner across WSU and the Pullman community to amplify services and reach of CHS
