Celebrity Series of Boston (CSB), a mainstay of the city’s cultural life for over 80 years, seeks a collaborative and entrepreneurial Artistic Director (AD) to oversee the organization’s performance programming. With a mission to present performing artists who inspire and enrich its community, CSB brings its audiences the world’s great orchestras, chamber ensembles and soloists, and leading artists in contemporary dance, jazz, world and folk music, and spoken word.

Known as one of the nation’s most highly regarded independent presenting organizations, with a reputation for artistic excellence and innovative curation honed over the decades, CSB presents over 70 mainstage performances a year in eight to 10 different venues across Greater Boston. The AD is responsible for planning and programming the annual season of multi-disciplinary live and digital performances. Alongside mainstage performances, CSB’s community engagement programs connect the organization with a dynamic network of hundreds of community collaborators, reaching thousands of individuals annually, through 150+ activities.

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished artistic professional with gravitas, a proven track record in leading artistic programming efforts, and a demonstrated history of developing successful relationships with artists, artists’ managers and agencies throughout the world. The successful candidate will have exceptional artistic vision that balances the variety of genres that CSB presents, with a bold confidence to present audiences with artistic programming and emerging talent across a broad array of genres. They will have knowledge of strategic planning, performance revenue and performance expense budget development, and experience with performance activities focused on community engagement. The candidate will be innovative and strategic, have an appreciation for the rich artistic tradition across Greater Boston and its cultural entities, a vigor to engage a variety of stakeholders and audiences, experience with building relationships throughout a community, and a deep commitment to the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
