Recruiting exceptional leaders for mission-driven organizations.

President New York, NY

The New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM) seeks a dynamic, accomplished, and visionary leader to serve as its next President. With 175 years of rich history as a leading institution for medicine and public health, NYAM addresses the barriers that prevent every individual from living a healthy life.  It does so by generating and sharing the knowledge needed to change the systems that prevent people from accessing what they need to be healthy, by leveraging its focused symposia for health professionals and by engaging the public through its high-profile programming.

The mission of NYAM spans policy leadership, clinical medicine, public health advocacy, innovative and community-centered research, evaluation of health programming, education, and public engagement. Its work is accomplished in collaboration with numerous partners, including community-based organizations, and the biomedical community including healthcare providers, academia, governmental agencies, and its dedicated, elected Fellows and Members from health-related professions. Current assets include an investment portfolio of over $70 million, grants and contracts awarded over the past five years totaling $27.5 million, and one of the most distinguished libraries of the history of medicine and public health in the world, housed in its historic building on Museum Mile in New York City.

NYAM’s next President will have the opportunity to leverage and expand upon the organization’s accomplishments and legacy. Working with an engaged Board of Trustees they will be a vigorous and compelling champion for NYAM’s future by setting and refining the vision and strategic direction for the next phase of the organization’s growth and development. As NYAM strives to increase its impact, develops exciting new opportunities, and deepens its ties both within and beyond the New York area, the Board of Trustees seeks an exceptional leader to serve as an energetic ambassador for the organization. The successful candidate must have an advanced degree (MD, PhD, JD, MBA, MHA, MPH, MPP, DrPH), a deep appreciation and expertise in clinical medicine, public health, or in a non-profit setting as well as non-profit management experience and a record of administrative leadership commensurate with running a complex, multifaceted, and nimble organization.

Stephanie Fidel is leading this search with Jean Jacoby and Nathaniel Rodriguez Sosa.
