Director, Food Systems Research Center Burlington, VT

The University of Vermont (UVM), one of the nation’s premier small public research universities, seeks an accomplished scientist and scholar to serve as the inaugural director of the Food Systems Research Center (FSRC). The Center is the first joint research center of its kind focused on food systems, partnering UVM with the United States Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Services (ARS). The partnership provides exciting collaborative opportunities and annual funding to solve some of the most vexing problems in food systems sustainability, with a particular focus on systems research and capacity in small and medium-scale food systems in Vermont and the region.

Reporting to the Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the proposed academic rank of the new Director is full professor. The Director will be responsible for developing a long-term vision and strategy for the FSRC and its role in supporting academic research and outreach that reflects the land-grant mission of UVM and strongly integrates with the existing food systems capacity at the University. They will champion interdisciplinary, high-impact research activity while building and fostering a diverse community of food systems researchers. As the external liaison for the FSRC across the state and nation, the Director will initiate and lead funding opportunities to support both new and ongoing FSRC activities.

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences welcomes applications from candidates with an outstanding research record in food systems-related scholarship and administrative leadership. Success in center-based or interdisciplinary leadership dedicated to the introduction of new technology or the use of existing technology to address new problems are encouraged to apply.
