Recruiting exceptional leaders for mission-driven organizations.

Chief Executive Officer Santa Barbara, CA

Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics invites applications and nominations for its next Chief Executive Officer.

Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics (SBNC) has been serving the Santa Barbara community for over 50 years. Its founding mission is to provide quality affordable healthcare to all community members, regardless of their ability to pay, in an environment that fosters respect, compassion, and dignity. This mission is predicated on the philosophy that everyone should have access to affordable healthcare. Today, as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), SBNC is the largest healthcare safety net in Santa Barbara County, providing medical, dental, and behavioral health.

Despite Santa Barbara’s affluent reputation, nearly one in every three members of the Santa Barbara community qualify as medically underserved, as defined by the federal government. SBNC believes that healthy people make for healthy communities and never turns anyone away based on their ability to pay, providing care to nearly 20,000 unduplicated patients every year. In the face of ongoing changes in the healthcare landscape in California and across the nation, SBNC must continue to evolve in order to consistently and sustainably deliver on its core mission. In recent years, SBNC has increased its visibility in the community, is nearing the completion of a $26 million capital funding campaign, and has plans to open a new clinic. In addition, SBNC has a strong history of clinically pivoting to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the community – including serving as a critical COVID-19 vaccination hub and testing center during the pandemic.

The incoming CEO will lead a dynamic, diverse staff comprised of experienced and committed clinicians, dentists, and behavioral health providers with a passion for delivering quality healthcare to these patients. With a goal of being recognized as an HRSA Clinical Quality Leader, the incoming CEO will have the opportunity to expand care and further develop SBNC’s outstanding reputation at the local, state, and federal level.

The successful candidate will embody many of the following professional skills, experiences, and personal qualities:

  • A firm understanding and commitment to the vision and mission of SBNC;
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational leadership skills, including the ability to build a culture of trust, teamwork, accountability and respect within the organization, hire, and retain high performing staff, and maintain an open and collaborative environment;
  • Experience setting strategy and vision and demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership in the development and implementation of major organizational initiatives and investments;
  • Skills and capabilities to serve as an effective external representative and fundraiser for the organization, including developing and managing partnerships with other community organizations, promoting the role of SBNC and needs of patients served to external stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competence in FQHC management, including clinical operations, finance, human resources, marketing and outreach, external relations, and working with Board of Directors;
  • Demonstrated financial management success, including managing large organizational budgets and supporting improved financial outcomes;
