Recruiting exceptional leaders for mission-driven organizations.

Associate University Librarian for Research and Learning New Haven, CT

Yale University seeks an innovative and collaborative leader to serve as its Associate University Librarian for Research and Learning (AUL). This is a new role on the leadership team of the Yale University Libraries (Yale Library). The establishment of this position reflects Yale Library's continued development as a more fully unified library system and represents an opportunity to design and implement a comprehensive approach to Yale Library's support of research, teaching, and learning throughout the institution.

Yale University encompasses Yale College, the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, and 12 professional schools; it is home to more than 13,500 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, and nearly 5,000 faculty and 10,000 staff. The University has recently embarked on a bold course of investment to deepen its dominance in the humanities; affirm the importance of the arts; nurture data-driven social science research; accelerate science, medical research and practice, and engineering; and advance cross-school and cross-disciplinary initiatives. In this generative intellectual environment, the AUL for Research and Learning will lead a broad and inclusive effort to align Yale Library's offerings with these ambitions. The AUL will drive the library's partnership with schools, divisional deans, department chairs, and center and institute directors; pioneer new offerings and codify existing services that support and promote research and discovery; and work with Yale Library colleagues to ensure that library services meet the demands of current and emerging areas of study.

Reporting to the University Librarian, the AUL will join a talented and energetic team of library professionals intent on positioning Yale Library as a leading 21st-century academic research library. The AUL’s portfolio will include the Department of Area Studies & Humanities Research Support, the Divinity Library, the Harvey Cushing/John Hay Whitney Medical Library, the Irving S. Gilmore Music Library, the Marx Science & Social Science Library, the Robert B. Haas Family Arts Library, and a new interdisciplinary department, Computational Methods & Data, consisting of digital humanities, statistical and data analysis support, research data services, and GIS services. The AUL must possess broad intellectual curiosity, strategic vision, tactical and managerial expertise, and the disposition and capacity to partner with accomplished faculty and library professionals.
