Vice President of Philanthropy Greenville, SC

United Way of Greenville County (UWGC) seeks an enterprising and accomplished fundraising professional to lead philanthropic giving including individual, foundation, and endowment initiatives. Located in the thriving and vibrant city of Greenville, SC, UWGC has benefitted greatly from its numerous partnerships with individuals, corporations, local foundations, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations in the community. Traditional workplace campaigns continue to represent a robust source of revenue for the organization and connect members of the community with UWGC. Recognizing the transformation in corporate philanthropy and the trends in individual giving nationwide, and the pressing needs facing the community, the next vice president of philanthropy will have the exciting opportunity to make profound impact by identifying new and sustainable revenue streams to support the programs and services that impact the most vulnerable residents of Greenville County.

The position becomes available at a critical moment in UWGC’s 100-year history. Greenville County has experienced rapid growth over the past several years and as a result, is at an increased risk for leaving hard-working community members behind as the community grapples with affordable housing, living wage jobs, educational equity, and other important factors.

Reporting to the CEO, the vice president of philanthropy will play a key role in identifying and galvanizing new individual contributors and funders while leading conversations about greater levels of engagement with long-standing individual contributors. The vice president of philanthropy will reach out to and engage individuals in Greenville County and beyond and communicate the impact and critical role UWGC has on the region and the state. The vice president of philanthropy will recruit, train, and mentor a committed and productive staff that is well-prepared to meet the ongoing challenges and aspirations of UWGC that reflects the diversity of the community it serves.

The successful candidate will have a passion and commitment to the mission of UWGC as well as an appreciation for the organization’s impact on the county and the life and well-being of all its residents. The vice president will be capable of articulating the case for UWGC to the broader community to further the organization’s mission and goals. Recognizing that all members of the philanthropy team will play a part in increasing fundraising efforts, the vice president will work with staff members to clearly define individual and team goals that will dramatically increase philanthropic support and transform engagement efforts. Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred in nonprofit management, community affairs, or business administration preferred.
