Marcelo W.B Araujo, DDS, PhD | Dean, School of Dental Medicine University at Buffalo, School of Dental Medicine We are pleased to announce that the University at Buffalo (UB) has named Marcelo W.B Araujo, DDS, PhD as the Dean of the School of Dental Medicine, effective May 15, 2023. An internationally recognized clinical researcher and epidemiologist, Araujo has a strong commitment to improving oral health globally. Araujo is currently the Chief Science Officer of the American Dental Association (ADA) and Chief Executive Officer of the ADA Science & Research Institute (ADASRI). Araujo is an active clinical researcher who has published extensively on impactful issues in dental medicine. His current work, supported by the National Institutes of Health, focuses on developing guidelines for antibiotic prescriptions for dentists and periodontists. Araujo received his DDS from Universidade Gama Filho in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and earned his PhD in epidemiology and community health and a master’s degree in oral sciences from UB, where he also completed a fellowship in periodontology research and teaching. He previously held faculty appointments at UB in the School of Dental Medicine and the School of Public Health. In recognition of his impact and career achievements, Araujo received the International Association for Dental Research and the American Association for Dental Research William J. Gies Award for clinical research, the International Distinguished Alumnus Award from the UB Alumni Association, and is an honorary member of the American Academy of Periodontology.
