From a strong pool of candidates, Dr. Kymberly Pinder has been selected as the Dean of the School of Art at Yale University, effective July 1.
Pinder is currently the acting president of the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) and was previously MassArt’s provost and senior vice president of academic affairs. Prior to her time at MassArt, Pinder was dean of the University of New Mexico College of Fine Arts and served as chair of the department of art history, theory and criticism and director of the graduate program at School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
An internationally recognized scholar of race, representation, and murals, her work is used widely in art history curricula across the country and has fostered new avenues of inquiry in her field. Her unique approach to her scholarship and practice as a curator demonstrates to students the importance of community engagement in the arts. Pinder holds a bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College and masters and PhD degrees from Yale University.
