California Institute of the Arts CHANEL Center for Artists and Technology, Executive Director (Inaugural)

We are pleased to announce that MaryClare Brzytwa has been appointed inaugural executive director of the CHANEL Center for Artists and Technology (CCAT) at the California Institute of the Arts. In this newly created role, Brzytwa will lead the Center’s efforts to position artists at the forefront of emerging technologies and interdisciplinary innovation.

Brzytwa brings more than 15 years of experience building and scaling programs that bridge artistic practice, research, and technology. A CalArts alumna, she has held senior leadership roles across arts education, creative technology, and the tech sector, including positions at Epic Games and Meta. Her background as an educator includes founding the Technology and Applied Composition program at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she developed an interdisciplinary curriculum, recruited industry-leading faculty, and oversaw the creation of advanced teaching and research facilities.

An accomplished artist, performer, and composer with an international profile, Brzytwa is known for integrating creative practice with strategic leadership. As executive director, she will guide CCAT’s strategic direction, cultivate its public presence, and strengthen connections among CalArts, artists, technologists, and global industry and cultural partners — advancing the Center’s mission to foster experimentation, collaboration, and artist-led approaches to technology.

Brzytwa holds an MFA from CalArts and a bachelor's degree from Mills College.
