New York University Grey Art Museum, Director

We are pleased to announce that New York University has appointed Alison Weaver as director of the Grey Art Museum. Weaver will begin her role on May 26, 2026, bringing significant experience leading university-based arts organizations at the intersection of scholarship, contemporary practice, and public engagement.

Weaver joins NYU from Rice University, where she spent a decade as founding director of the Moody Center for the Arts. There, she led the development of the Center’s interdisciplinary mission, oversaw the construction and launch of its 50,000-square-foot facility, and curated more than 25 exhibitions and public programs. In parallel, she directed Rice’s public art program and secured major philanthropic support to ensure free and open access to the Center’s programming.

Her earlier career includes senior leadership at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, where she managed international affiliates and key curatorial and operational functions, as well as teaching art history at the City University of New York. A former New Yorker with deep ties to academic and cultural communities, Weaver is well positioned to steward the Grey Art Museum as it enters a new chapter — expanding its role as a hub for interdisciplinary learning, research, and cultural exchange within NYU and across the city.

Weaver earned a BA from Princeton University, an MA in art history from Williams College, an MPhil in art history from the City University of New York, and an MBA from the Yale School of Management.
