United States-Japan Foundation, Board Member

We are pleased to announce that the United States–Japan Foundation (USJF) has appointed Tiffany Benjamin, CEO of the Humana Foundation, as a Trustee. Benjamin brings extensive experience in American philanthropy, corporate social impact, and health equity. As CEO of the Humana Foundation, she leads efforts to cocreate healthier communities and eliminate unjust disparities in health outcomes, with a particular focus on mental and behavioral health, nutrition and food security, and the wellbeing of schoolaged children, seniors, and veterans.

Prior to joining Humana, Benjamin served as president of the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation and senior director of social impact at Eli Lilly and Company. She has also received numerous national honors recognizing her leadership and influence. She was named to Time Magazine’s inaugural 2025 TIME100 Philanthropy list, celebrating individuals shaping the future of giving. In 2024, she received the Outstanding Corporate Philanthropy Leaders Award from the Council on Foundations, and in 2022 was named one of The Root’s 100 Most Influential Black Americans.

Founded in 1980, the United States–Japan Foundation works to improve relations between the two countries and has awarded more than $100 million in grants while overseeing the USJapan Leadership Program, a network of over 500 fellows. Benjamins appointment strengthens the Foundations capacity to expand its philanthropic impact and to connect U.S. and Japanese philanthropic and nonprofit communities.

Tiffany has a law degree from Harvard Law School and an undergraduate degree in journalism and political science from Indiana University.
