University of Arizona Cancer Center, Associate Director of Population Sciences

Gloria D. Coronado, PhD, appointed the Inaugural Associate Director of Population Sciences at the University of Arizona Cancer Center, where she will also hold the Maynard Chair in Prevention Research and serve on the senior leadership team. She will recruit and develop population-based researchers to increase the Cancer Center’s impact on underserved and under-researched communities.

Coronado is the Mitch Greenlick Endowed Distinguished Investigator in Health Disparities Research at the Kaiser Permanente Northwest, Center for Health Research. She received her PhD in epidemiology from the University of Washington, where she went on to be a research associate professor in the university’s Department of Epidemiology. She has been named one of the 50 Changemakers of Public Health at the University of Washington School of Public Health, as well as Mentor of the Year on behalf of the Health Care Systems Research Network.

As a committee member for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine she contributed to the report, “Improving the Representation of Women and Underrepresented Minorities in Clinical Trials and Research.” She is also a member of the Board of Scientific Advisors for the National Cancer Institute.
