Henry Geng, MBA | Chief Development Officer University of California Berkeley College of Computing Data Science and Society, Chief Development Officer Henry Geng, MBAThe University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) has appointed Henry Geng as assistant dean for development and chief development officer of the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS), the university’s first new college in more than 50 years, effective October 1, 2026. Reporting to Dean Jennifer Chayes, Geng will be responsible for leading the strategic direction for the college’s development team, supporting the CDSS advisory board, and partnering with leadership on interdisciplinary programs and initiatives. He also has a dotted reporting line to University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) and will closely collaborate with development officers across campus.Geng joins CDSS from the University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) Rady School of Management, where he led a comprehensive development and alumni relations team and served on the dean’s leadership cabinet. His team secured significant philanthropic support for the school and achieved record alumni giving and volunteer engagement, expanding access for students, deepening support for faculty research, and building a stronger philanthropic pipeline for school’s future.Before UC San Diego, Geng held senior roles at Boston University, where he secured significant gifts for the university’s top institutional priorities. He began his career at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital, raising gifts from patients and families to improve clinical care, research, education, and capital projects for obstetrics, gynecology, and pediatric newborn medicine.Geng completed a bachelor’s degree in environmental economics from Bates College and a master’s degree in business administration from Boston University.Rachel Ellenport led this search with Nicole Poe and Megan Gorman.
