Laura Mamo, PhD

Wellesley College has appointed Laura Mamo as the next Katherine Stone Kaufmann ’67 Executive Director of the Wellesley Centers for Women (WCW), effective September 2026.

Mamo serves as Director of the Health Equity Institute and Professor of Public Health at San Francisco State University. An accomplished scholar and institution builder, she has a proven track record of establishing partnerships and programs that support interdisciplinary, community-based, and policy-relevant research. Her research focuses on women’s health, medical sociology, and gender equity, and she has received support from organizations including the National Science Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

As Executive Director, Mamo will lead one of the nation’s largest research institutes focused on women, advancing WCW’s mission to promote gender equity and social change through research and action.
